Following reports that Jayant Sinha, a former Union Minister and MP, neglected to cast his ballot on Monday, the BJP has launched an investigation against him. Since Manish Jaiswal was announced as a contender for the Hazaribagh seat in Jharkhand, the party claims he has not been involved in “organizational work and election campaigning” and has thus issued a show-cause notice against him. Mr. Sinha, the current Member of Parliament for the prominent constituency, declared in March that he would not be standing for election to the Lok Sabha.
“Since the party selected Manish Jaiswal to represent the Hazaribagh Lok Sabha seat, you have shown little interest in organizing activities or running for office. You didn’t even feel compelled to cast a ballot. Your actions have damaged the party’s reputation,” BJP state general secretary Aditya Sahu stated in a statement.
Within two days, the party has requested that Mr. Sinha clarify his position. The 61-year-old has not yet answered to the notification.

Mr. Sinha asked JP Nadda, the head of the BJP, to “relieve me of my direct electoral duties” in a post on X on March 2. “Efforts on combating global climate change in Bharat and around the world” was his stated goal. Soon after, the BJP declared Mr. Jaiswal as its nominee from the Jharkhand urban constituency, which was formerly held by Yashwant Sinha and then by his son Jayant Sinha.
Gautam Gambhir, another MP, made a similar statement, stating that he needed to be freed from his political responsibilities so that he could concentrate on his “upcoming cricket commitments”.
In lieu of its current MP, Gautam Gambhir, the BJP has fielded Harsh Malhotra from the east Delhi constituency.
According to sources who spoke with NDTV, the BJP’s electoral apparatus, which has undertaken in-depth surveys and lengthy deliberations on each Lok Sabha constituency, has decided against repeating Gautam Gambhir and Jayant Sinha.

In the second round of Jharkhand’s Lok Sabha elections, polling took place in three constituencies today. 68.26% of voters cast ballots in the Gandey assembly by-election, in which Kalpana Soren, the incarcerated wife of former chief minister Hemant Soren, is running for JMM.
With 64.32 percent of the vote, Hazaribagh had the greatest turnout, followed by Koderma (61.86 percent) and Chatra (62.96 percent).

Jayant Sinha represents Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh as an MP. He has previously held the positions of minister of state for finance, minister of state for civil aviation, and member of India’s council of ministers from 2014 to 2019. The BJP MP was involved in the introduction of the UDAN regional connectivity project, which increased India’s operational airport count by 50% in just three years. Additionally, Sinha put into effect a number of digital projects, such as the “DigiYatra” digital passenger program and the “DigitalSky Drone policy.”
First list of BJP candidates for the Lok Sabha will probably be released soon.
