Airports In Delhi Update 2024
Airports In Delhi Update 2024:-Airports across India are still reeling from yesterday’s major Microsoft outage. Although the situation has improved significantly since Friday’s chaos, passengers continue to face challenges, especially at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI).
Passengers saw some improvement today at Terminal 3 of Delhi’s IGI Airport, but some problems still persist. Yesterday, the automatic self-drop baggage and check-in machines were not working, leading to long queues outside Gate No. 5 of Terminal 3. Although many travelers today can print their boarding passes, international travelers still face difficulties in producing boarding passes, with some being issued manual passes inside the airport.
Digi Yatra machines at Gates 1-3, which facilitate seamless entry, are still not operational, resulting in manual entries. Display boards showing waiting times, flight schedules and other important information, which were down yesterday, are now functional. However, the overall system is still not fully recovered, as confirmed by airport officials.
Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport performed better than the airports of Delhi and Bengaluru. Although long queues were observed, operations are running more smoothly today. Nevertheless, this morning two flights, one to Varanasi and one to Kochi, were canceled and several international flights were rescheduled. This is an improvement from yesterday when nine domestic flights operated by IndiGo were cancelled. IndiGo has warned of possible cancellations today, but expressed hope that yesterday’s disruption will not be repeated as no Microsoft outage was reported today. The outage, caused by an update from global cybersecurity firm Crowd Strike, disrupted Microsoft’s Windows systems around the world, affecting financial institutions, airlines, hospitals and media channels. In India, it caused airline check-in systems to crash, causing delays and cancellations of dozens of flights. IndiGo alone canceled around 200 flights, while hundreds of flights were delayed as manual check-in procedures slowed down the process considerably.
Apart from Delhi and Mumbai, high-density airports like Bengaluru and Chennai were worst affected. At Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport, airlines like IndiGo, Akasa, SpiceJet and Air India Express started manual check-in to ensure minimum disruption. The technical glitch at Bengaluru airport has been completely resolved and operations have returned to normal. However, there is some congestion due to the residual effect of yesterday’s operational delays. Due to backlog, it will take a few hours for the crowd to subside.
23 flights were canceled at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, including IndiGo flights to Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu assured that the ministry and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) are managing the situation using manual methods to minimize disruption. Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that the cause of the disruption has been identified and updates have been issued to resolve the problem. According to the Aviation Ministry, the system started working normally at airports across the country from 3 am today.
