Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing NTA, submitted that as per the CBI investigation, at a special center in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, a person unauthorizedly took photographs of question papers between 8 am and 9.20 am on the day of the examination. The responsibility of investigating the case has been handed over to CBIA bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud wondered whether all the 180 questions could have been solved within 45 minutes even though the exam had started at 10.15 am, to which Mr Mehta replied that there were seven people in the gang who The questions were distributed among themselves.
Chief Justice Chandrachud said, “The entire hypothesis that the violation took place within 45 minutes and the entire paper was solved and given to the students seems very far-fetched.”
These question papers were then solved and answers were given to recall the students who allegedly paid the gang. ALSO READ:-https://livendtv.com/lok-sabha-live-updates-2024-big-controversy/
At the outset, the bench, also comprising Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra, said it had given priority to hearing the petitions over other matters as these have “social implications” and lakhs of students are awaiting the results.
After the day long debate ended, the next date was fixed as July 22. Supreme Court defends examination body in NEET case Senior advocate Narendra Hooda, appearing for some of the petitioners, strongly demanded its cancellation, claiming there was a “systemic failure” in conducting NEET-UG 2024.
He alleged that transportation of the question papers was compromised and he was in the custody of a private courier company in Hazaribagh for six days. What is shocking, he claimed, is that he was taken in an e-rickshaw to an examination centre, the principal of which was later arrested for his involvement in the racket.
However, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta denied any suggestion of NEET-UG 2024 paper leak and pointed out that the CBI had investigated the chain “from the printer to the Centre”.
He told the court, “How did the sealing happen… how did the GPS tracking happen… there is a seven-tier security system.” ALSO READ:-https://livendtv.com/delhi-heavy-rain-news-2024-update/
The court then asked Mr Mehta, “Mr Solicitor… did you appoint a private courier company to send the NEET paper?” The Solicitor General postponed his reply for later.
Questions were raised over transportation when the CBI suggested a leak – either when the papers were being taken to the centers or when they reached a school in Hazaribagh.
NEET-UG re-examination will happen only when “sanctity” is over During the hearing, the Supreme Court emphasized that it would order a re-examination of NEET-UG 2024 only if the “sanctity” of the May 5 exam was “largely lost” as a result of the leaked questions.
The remarks were an echo of those made last week, when the court had said the “sanctity” of the exam had been affected and sought answers. However, the top court had advised against re-examination saying that certain circumstances would be against it.
“You have to show us that the leak was systematic… it affected the entire examination… so that the entire examination can be cancelled…” Chief Justice Chandrachud told senior advocate Narendra Hooda, appearing for the petitioners.
When Mr Hooda informed the court that about 23.33 lakh students appeared for the examination for about 1.08 lakh seats in government and private medical colleges, the bench said, “Only because out of 23.33 lakh, only 1.08 lakh students will get admission , we can’t order Re-examinationRe-examination should be on the solid ground that the entire examination is affected.” The controversy over NEET-UG 2024 began last month after allegations that the question paper was leaked – subsequent inquiries indicated that the leak was done by a national ‘solver gang’ ‘ was done by the network on social media.
The first red flag was the unusually high number of completed scores. A record 67 students, including six from a coaching centre, scored the maximum 720 marks.
Questions were also asked over giving ‘grace marks’ – not exam protocols – to 1,563 students, according to officials. ALSO READ:-https://livendtv.com/delhi-heavy-rain-news-2024-update/
In an affidavit filed last week, the government, citing IIT Madras’ analysis, asserted that there was no indication of “collective misconduct” nor was there evidence that some candidates had benefited from cheating.
