Guntur Kaaram review: Trivikram Srinivas’ Mahesh Babu and Sreeleela-starrer appears a perfect fit for Sankranthi, only on paper.
After Khaleja and Athadu, Trivikram Srinivas’ third picture with Mahesh Babu must be his worst. Guntur Kaaram, a film that features Sreeleela in the lead role and important roles from Prakash Raj, Ramya Krishnan, Jayaram, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Murli Sharma, Vennela Kishore, and other actors, finds it difficult to keep your interest throughout its two hours and forty-nine minutes. Which is unfortunate because there was a strong narrative to support it.

Ramana (Mahesh) has grown apart from his mother Vyra Vasundhara (Ramya) for the majority of his life. Depending on who you ask, the boy who was once mommy’s boy is now known as either Guntur Kaaram or Rowdy Ramana. He has plenty of love from his father, Royal Satyam (Jayaram), uncle, aunt, and cousin (Raghubabu, Eswari Rao, Meenakshi). It’s not that he lacks love. However, he still yearns for his mother’s love—the one person from whom he is estranged. His mother and stepbrother, Rahul Ravindran, have taken over the family business, with his grandfather, Venkataswamy (Prakash), being a well-known politician. But what occurs when Ramana’s estranged family persistently begs him for political advantage?
Review of Guntur Kaaram
Indian cinema has entered a new era. Filmmakers appear to be particularly drawn to stories about friendships turning into parenthood (Animal, Hi Nanna, Guntur Kaaram), as seen in the films Salaar and RRR. Our male leads must be able to express their angst in other ways, right? Nobody knew what Guntur Kaaram was about until they entered the theater because the film’s creators kept the plot details close to the vest. However, this movie is not at all what you would think it would be—a commercial potboiler with no depth. Not that Trivikram doesn’t try hard enough to make this an emotional film.
Is the actor’s sheer willpower and ability to swim against the tide sufficient to keep this movie afloat? An amusing scene in which Ramana is inebriated and tries to figure out why he’s there, who’s plotting his murder, and where the story is going leaves you, the viewer, feeling that way halfway through the movie. Manoj Paramahamsa’s cinematography likewise attempts to bring energy to the proceedings, but it is limited in its effectiveness by prioritizing style over substance.
What is ineffective
The best way to characterize Guntur Kaaram’s plot is as a collection of scenes that either go on too long, don’t focus on feelings enough, cut off too soon, or worse, are used as fillers. Trivikram will undermine Ramana’s situation and the reason behind his mother’s abandonment before you even begin to empathize with him. There aren’t many moments in the movie where Mahesh’s character can relax, take everything in, and really express his
