Soon after its fall, opposition leaders sharply criticized both the Narendra Modi-led NDA government at the Center and the Mahayuti government in Maharashtra, and also accused them of corruption in matters related to the statue of warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Expressing his anguish, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and former MP Vinayak Raut said, “Maharaja, please forgive us… we cannot bear witnessing your humiliation at the hands of traitors.”
Mr. Wadettiwar demanded that the statue be immediately reinstalled at the site with greater grandeur and that the contractor who insulted the Maharaja be blacklisted.
He also called for the immediate termination of all ongoing projects involving this contractor and insisted that those responsible for insulting the Maharaja be held accountable and punished.
NCP (SP) working president and Baramati MP Supriya Sule said that when the country’s Prime Minister inaugurates a monument or structure, people expect the work to be of high quality. “However, the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj installed in Rajkot Fort in Malvan collapsed within a year, which is an insult to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
The memorial was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 4, 2023. The collapse of the statue within a year clearly indicates that the work was of low quality. This situation represents a betrayal of both the Prime Minister and the public. Therefore, there is an urgent need for a thorough investigation into the reasons behind the shoddy work and other related issues,” she said.

We demand that this person and his organization be blacklisted from all future projects.”
Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati, the 13th direct descendant of Shivaji Maharaj, said the statue, which was hastily built for the inauguration by the Prime Minister, has collapsed. “We had earlier written to the Prime Minister urging him to replace this statue, which was poorly designed, lacked proper form and was installed in a hurry. “Today my heart pained greatly after seeing the fallen statue of our Maharaj. This insult to the Maharaja by the Shinde regime and the poisonous snake called BJP should be crushed! Every statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, a symbol of the pride of Maharashtra, should be protected!” He said.
Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi chief and Dr. BR. Ambedkar’s grandson, Prakash Ambedkar, said, “This is not just a collapsed statue of one of Maharashtra’s statues, it is a knife in the hearts of the people of Maharashtra. Eknath Shinde and BJP led Maharashtra government has insulted the entire Maharashtra. Actually, the poor work of the government can be seen in the video. Obviously this statue was made temporarily so that Modi could inaugurate it and conduct a photo session. BJP also adopts the same policy in implementing other civic constructions.
Mr. Ambedkar said that Mr. Shinde should apologize to the entire Maharashtra and resign immediately.
