ToggleRoyal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has decided to Glenn Maxwell Takes Break From IPL 2024 over ‘mental and physical fatigue’.
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], April 16 (ANI): Royal Challengers Bengaluru all-rounder Glenn Maxwell revealed that he elected to Glenn Maxwell Takes Break From IPL 2024 the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) as he looks to refresh himself physically and mentally but acknowledged that the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad was a bad one to miss out.
The experienced star, who has struggled for form this season, revealed that he asked the management to pick his replacement for their clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the M Chinnasamy Stadium on Monday.
RCB’s 25-run defeat was a run scoring fest as boundaries rained throughout the match. Riding high on performances from Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen, SRH broke their record and set a new highest score in the IPL of 287/3.
After the record-breaking spectacle, Maxwell, with a sminle on his face, acknowledged that it was a bad game to miss.
Glenn Maxwell says, I realized it was probably a bad game to miss; it would have been nice to be out there batting,” Maxwell said in the post-match press conference. Since the beginning of the ongoing season, Maxwell has scored only 32 runs in six innings at an average of 5.33 and it includes three ducks as well.
In the press conference, Maxwell said that he isn’t in a good ‘mental and physical space’ at the moment. Hence, decided to take a break. The Australian all-rounder didn’t specify the length for which he decides to sit out.

“It was a pretty easy decision. I went to Faf (du Plessis) and the coaches after the last game and said I felt it was probably time we tried someone else. I have been in this situation in the past where you can keep playing and get yourself deeper into a hole. I think now is actually a good time for me to give myself a bit of a mental and physical break; get my body right. If I’m required to get in during the tournament, I can hopefully get back into a really solid mental and physical space where I can still have an impact,” Maxwell stated.
“I probably just haven’t got away – it’s as simple as that. In the first few games, I feel I made reasonably good decisions, but I was still finding ways to get out. It can happen in T20 cricket and when it snowballs like that, you can go searching and try too hard and forget the basics of the game.”
With RCB’s qualification for the playoffs hanging by a threa,

Maxwell’s absence from RCB’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Bengaluru on Monday was initially attributed to a finger injury he suffered during the previous match against Mumbai Indians, but he later admitted that he has taken a break from the league.
I felt like I wasn’t contributing with the bat, and with the results and the position we find ourselves on the table, Australia’s Glenn Maxwell, who plays for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, said.
It’s a good time to give someone else an opportunity: Maxwell
Maxwell was quite underwhelming with the bat this season. In the six matches he has played this season, he has taken just 32 runs at an average of 5.33 and a strike-rate of 94. In that 32, Maxwell scored 28 in the match against Kolkata Knight Riders alone, which was also helped to a great degree by two dropped catches.
The 35-year-old agreed that he was not contributing enough to merit a place in RCB team. “I have been in this situation in the past where you can keep playing and get yourself deeper into a hole. We have had a pretty big deficiency after the power play, which has been my area of strength over the last couple of seasons.
“I felt like I wasn’t contributing with the bat, and with the results and the position we find ourselves on the table, I think it’s a good time to give someone else an opportunity to show their wares, and hopefully, someone can make that spot their own,” a candid Maxwell said.
