In Austria vs Turkiye: The starting captain of Turkey, Hakan Calhanoglu, has not even been included in the roster for the pivotal knockout encounter despite starting Turkiye’s three group stage matches in the current European Championship. When Turkiye played Czech Republic in their last group stage encounter, the 30-year-old player was given a yellow card. Earlier in the competition, Calhanoglu received his first warning for a clumsy tackle on Giorgi Kochorashvili late in the opening 3-1 victory over Georgia. A player is suspended by UEFA if he receives two yellow cards. In addition to Calhanoglu, Samet Akaydin’s ban will also affect Turkiye, and Austria will be missing winger Patrick Wimmer.
