New Delhi:
Fearsome mobster Lawrence Bishnoi is currently being held in a Gujarati jail. His gang has claimed responsibility for the firing outside actor Salman Khan’s residence in April and the recent death of former Maharashtra politician Baba Siddique. Nevertheless, the Mumbai Police have not been able to obtain custody of Bishnoi. According to sources, the Mumbai Police requested custody of Bishnoi, who is currently being held at the Sabarmati jail, multiple times following the firing in April. However, their requests were turned down because of a Home Ministry directive that prevented his transfer.
In connection with a narcotics smuggling case, Bishnoi was transferred from Delhi’s Tihar to the Sabarmati jail in August 2023. The Ministry of Home Affairs then issued an order under Section 268 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) declaring that no state or agency could request his custody for a year. This clause grants the government the authority to impose travel restrictions on inmates where doing so could compromise law and order.
Following their claim of responsibility for the 2022 murder of Punjabi musician Sidhu Moose Wala, the Bishnoi gang grabbed headlines across the country. Subsequently, it claimed responsibility for the April firing outside Salman Khan’s Bandra residence, Galaxy Apartments.
The gang has stated that it wants to kill Salman Khan because of his alleged involvement in shooting blackbucks at Bawad in Mathania near Jodhpur in September 1998, during the filming of “Hum Saath Saath Hain.” The gang’s daily operations are currently primarily run by gangsters Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara, as well as Bishnoi’s brother Anmol.
The Gang from Bishnoi Assumes Liability for the Murder of Baba Siddique.
The Bishnoi people, who revere the blackbuck, was offended by the purported behavior.
In 2018, Lawrence Bishnoi declared in court, “We will kill Salman Khan in Jodhpur.” When we act, everyone will know. They are accusing me of crimes without any evidence, even though I haven’t done anything.”
One of the gang members, who has since been placed under arrest, has claimed that the group was also responsible for Siddique’s death on Saturday.
According to Lonkar, Siddique was assassinated because he was close to Salman Khan, was connected to Dawood Ibrahim, India’s most wanted terrorist, and was in police custody when Anuj Thapan, one of the apprehended suspects in the shooting outside Mr. Khan’s residence, died.
The Mumbai Crime Branch is still having difficulty getting custody of infamous mobster Lawrence Bishnoi, who is still detained at Gujarat’s Sabarmati Jail. Mumbai Police have made numerous unsuccessful attempts to obtain custody of him despite his claimed involvement in a number of high-profile crimes, including the gunfire incident outside Bollywood star Salman Khan’s apartment in April 2024.
The assassination of former Maharashtra minister and NCP politician Baba Siddique has been attributed to the Bishnoi gang. Since the gunmen detained in connection with the murder have claimed to be members of Bishnoi’s gang, Mumbai Police are actively looking into his possible participation in the incident.
An order issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs under Section 268 (1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) is a major impediment to the police’s efforts. High-profile inmates like Bishnoi cannot be transferred, according to this directive, which cites worries that doing so might cause problems with law and order. The injunction was supposed to expire in August 2024, but it appears that it has been prolonged, which makes it more difficult to get him into the custody of Mumbai Police.
The Criminal Activities of Bishnoi from Sabarmati Prison.
Even though Bishnoi is incarcerated right now, his brother Anmol Bishnoi, Goldy Brar, and Rohit Godar—all of whom are based overseas—are thought to be in charge of running the gang’s operations. Bishnoi was involved in a cross-border drug smuggling case, which led to his transfer from Delhi’s Tihar Jail to Sabarmati Jail in August 2023. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has compared Bishnoi’s syndicate to Dawood Ibrahim’s criminal network in the 1990s, highlighting the gang’s rapid expansion in its chargesheet.
In addition to claiming responsibility for Siddique’s death, the Bishnoi gang hinted at a long-running grudge against Salman Khan in a recent social media post. Given that blackbucks are revered in the Bishnoi community, the gang argues that Khan is their target because of his role in the blackbuck hunting case. The post further threatened to target anyone who supported Khan or the Dawood Ibrahim gang in the future. The actor has been the target of the Bishnoi gang on several occasions over the years; the most recent incident involved gunfire outside the actor’s Mumbai residence in April 2024.
Two of the suspects detained in relation to the death of Baba Siddique have admitted to belonging to the Bishnoi gang. A social media post purporting to be from a gang member and taking credit for the murder is also being looked into to verify its veracity. The authorities are currently looking into any potential links between Siddique’s close relationship with Salman Khan and the cause of his death.
