New Delhi:
The hot topic in Andhra Pradesh right now is laddoos, especially those served as “prasadam,” or devotional gifts, at the temple town of Tirupati. This is because a lab in Gujarat found evidence of animal fat in the ghee used to prepare them. In response to the “desecration” of the temple, a revered site among devout Hindus in the state and throughout India, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and his Telugu Desam Party have attacked his predecessor, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his YSR Congress Party.
The Chief Minister, who said that the temple would be “sanitized,” also charged his opponent with corruption for allegedly insulting “one of the most revered Gods” and engaging in dishonest tender negotiations to purchase the enormous amounts of “adulterated ghee” required to make an estimated three lakh laddoos every day.
The temple’s current board has appointed a four-member committee to present a report regarding the quality standards in the laddoo preparation process, but they have not yet made a public statement regarding the dispute.
It’s crucial to remember that the TTD board requested the lab study on its own, citing several public complaints over the laddoos’ quality in recent weeks and months. It’s crucial to remember that the TTD board requested the lab study on its own, citing several public complaints over the laddoos’ quality in recent weeks and months.
The Lab Report from Gujarat Said.
Animal fat was discovered in the ghee used to produce the well-known Tirupati laddoos during the YSRCP’s rule, according to a July 17 study from the Centre of Analysis and Learning in Livestock and Food, or CALF, lab at the center-run National Dairy Development Board in Gujarat, which was made public on Wednesday.
According to the investigation, there were residues of beef tallow, fish oil, and lard in the ghee. Lard is a semi-solid white fat product made from reducing pig fatty tissue.
Nara Lokesh, the IT Minister of Andhra and son of Chandrababu Naidu, also chimed in, alleging that during the YSRCP’s rule, the party had been serving poor quality “annadanam,” or free food, at the temple.
He asserted that an anti-corruption investigation into anomalies in the procurement of ghee, veggies, and other ingredients needed to prepare the laddoos and the meal was what started the controversy over animal fat.
Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena Party, Mr. Naidu’s state ally, has accused Mr. Reddy and the YSRCP of “desecration of’sanatan dharm’ in any form” and is demanding action against them.
The Congress has been largely silent thus far after being soundly defeated in the Assembly election earlier this year, losing all 159 seats it ran for. YS Sharmila, the leader of the party’s state branch, has demanded that the Central Bureau of Investigation investigate the claim.
“Form a high-level committee or request a CBI investigation if your accusations lack political overtones and you intend to avoid getting political with this matter. The Congress has ordered you to ascertain the truth.
Tirupati Laddoos Row: What Is It?
An estimated five lakh kilograms, or around 42,000 pounds, of ghee are purchased annually by the TTD board. Every six months, an e-tender is used to purchase this. Furthermore, about 22,500 kg of cashew nuts, 15,000 kg of raisins, and 6,000 cardamoms are needed for the TTD.
The Karnataka Milk Federation claims that although the TTD used to buy ghee from them, supplies were stopped four years ago, allegedly due to disagreements over price.According to reports, the Congress-ruled Karnataka government mandated a ₹ 3 per litre hike in milk costs, which prevented them from providing ghee at prices low enough for the TTD.
