Indian Students Breaking Update:-The worsening situation in Bangladesh, where widespread protests have been going on for weeks, has forced Indian students to return home using any available means, with over 300 students crossing through border points in the northeast on Friday alone . More than 100 people have died in clashes between students and security forces and pro-government activists across Bangladesh over the re-implementation of reservation in government jobs. The protests, which have been going on for at least three weeks, escalated significantly on Monday when violence broke out at Dhaka University. Six people were killed the next day, after which the government ordered the closure of universities across the country.
Many of the returnee students were pursuing MBBS degrees and most of them were from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Meghalaya and Jammu and Kashmir. The two main routes used by students to return on Friday were the international land port at Akhurah near Agartala in Tripura and the international land port at Dawki in Meghalaya.

The students said they were waiting and monitoring the situation, but ultimately decided to leave Bangladesh temporarily, as the internet was almost completely shut down on Thursday and telephone services were also severely affected. , effectively cutting them off from their families.
Aamir from Haryana said, “I am a second-year student at Marine City Medical College and Hospital, Chittagong. The situation is getting worse and many restrictions have been imposed, which is why we have come back. Many other students Have also come back The internet is not working and we are not able to contact our families. We could not get air tickets and had to go to Agartala by road instead of going home.”

“That’s when we came to know that the reservation movement was going on. The college authorities said the institute would remain closed and when we spoke to the principal he suggested we return to India if we felt unsafe The people at the Indian Embassy also advised us the same and asked us to contact them if we had any difficulty in arranging transportation. We took a taxi to Agartala border and have just crossed the border,” Mr Khan said. Many Indian students made the six-hour long journey home via taxis and security guards. Officials in Meghalaya said more than 200 Indians have crossed the border due to the protests. Some students from Bhutan and Nepal have also entered India.
