Details of Toshakhana case
• While in his time as prime minister, Imran Khan was accused of “knowingly disguising details about gifts” that he received from the Toshakhana, a storehouse for gifts presented to government officials by foreign guests. This covers the earnings from the presents’ sales as well as the gifts themselves.
• The 71-year-old former prime minister and his wife bought presents given by foreign dignitaries from the national treasury at prices far less than their stated values, according to a probe by the nation’s anti-corruption agency, the National Accountability Bureau.
• Six of the seven timepieces included in the claimed presents are Rolex watches. According to Pakistan’s communications minister, the most expensive of them is a “Master Graff limited edition,” which is anticipated to cost $300,000.
• The Toshakhana, which is run by the Cabinet Division, keeps presents that foreign leaders give to kings and government officials. Reporting of such gifts and objects to the Cabinet Division is required by regulations.
• This is Khan’s second conviction in the corruption case; the first came from a special court last year, when they sentenced him to three years in prison. The former cricket star was barred from holding any public office for five years as a result of the prior case.
