Muharram 2024:-Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar, is a festival of great significance for Muslims around the world. This holy month is characterized by intense mourning and introspection, especially on the 10th day, called Ashura. On Wednesday, July 17, 2024, Muslims will celebrate Ashura remembering the tragic events of the Battle of Karbala. It is given a high status in the Muslim society.
Many places in the country will remain closed today on the occasion of Muharram. Today the two major stock exchanges of the country, National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain closed. These states include New Delhi, Patna, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan, Jammu, Tripura, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh and Meghalaya.
On the occasion of Muharram, schools will remain closed in many states including Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, Goa and Gujarat today i.e. on July 17, 2024. Students should confirm the leave with their teachers and school authorities.

Delhi Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory regarding the Tajiya procession in the national capital on July 17, which will be taken out across the city to commemorate Muharram.

Road, Janpath, Sansad Marg, Tughlaq Road, Ashoka Road, KG Marg, Lodhi Road and Jor Bagh Roadtraffic will be controlled.
