Today’s earthquake in Delhi: On Thursday afternoon, there were tremors of an earthquake in Delhi and the surrounding areas. The seismic activity was also felt in the National Capital Region, which includes Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad.
Afghanistan was the epicenter of the earthquakes, according to the National Center for Seismology, the Indian government’s nodal agency for monitoring seismic activity.
“Earthquake of Magnitude:6.1, Occurred on 11-01-2024, 14:50:24 IST, Lat: 36.48 & Long: 70.45, Depth: 220 Km ,Location: Afghanistan,” it stated on X.
Chandigarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, Punjab, and other northern Indian states were also affected by the tremors.
The cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, and Lahore were also affected, according to reports from Pakistani media.
At 2:50 pm, Pakistan and India both felt the tremors of an earthquake.
The epicenter of the earthquake, according to NCS, was 241 kilometers northeast of Kabul, Afghanistan.
People in Delhi and the National Capital Region experienced panic after the earthquake, with many reporting that their furniture was shaking.
Many reportedly ran out of their homes and places of employment, gripped by panic.
At 2:20 pm, the Pakistan Meteorological Department reported that an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 had occurred in several parts of the country. According to PTI, the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan served as the earthquake’s epicenter.
The US Geological Survey reported that the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.4. It struck in Afghanistan 44 km to the southwest of Jurm, at a depth of 206.6 km.

Strong tremors were also felt in several Pakistani cities, and reports are coming in from across the border. The effects of the earthquake were most noticeable in regions near the Afghan border. Pakistani local authorities are assessing the damage and preparing for any emergencies that may occur.
Officials from Pakistan and India are keeping in close contact as the situation develops to plan any joint actions that may be required in the wake of this seismic event. Although the complete extent of the damage is still unknown, preliminary reports indicate that buildings and infrastructure may have been impacted in some areas.
