Amethi horror: Chandan Verma, the murder suspect, is hurt in a police clash while attempting to flee.
According to the police, the primary suspect in the Amethi killings of a teacher, his wife, and their two little children stated that he had been in a relationship with the victim for almost a year and a half before the relationship soured.
After Chandan Verma was apprehended on Friday afternoon from a toll plaza close to Noida, he grabbed a police officer’s revolver and fired at him on Saturday while the authorities were retrieving the motorcycle and handgun used in the killings. According to an Uttar Pradesh Police statement, Verma was shot in the leg by another police officer, but the policeman was able to rescue himself.
On Thursday, Sunil Kumar, his spouse Poonam, and their two little girls, ages one and six, were fatally shot at their Bhavani Nagar residence in Amethi. It was discovered shortly after the graphic killings that Poonam had reported Verma to the police less than two months prior, claiming that he had threatened to kill her multiple times and would be held accountable if anything happened to her or her family. Additionally, Poonam said that Verma had harassed her sexually.
Anoop Kumar Singh, the superintendent of police in Amethi, stated during a press conference on Friday that Verma was apprehended by the Special Task Force at the Jewar Toll Plaza at approximately 2.40 pm on Friday while he attempted to escape to Delhi. Verma informed us during our initial interrogation that he had been dating Poonam for around nine months. He claimed that recent issues in the relationship were the source of his tension. He shot her and her family for this reason.
Verma is receiving medical attention at a hospital.
The fact that all of the bullets discovered at the crime scene came from a single pistol supports Mr. Singh’s claim that Verma committed the murders on his own.”Verma shot ten times. He attempted to shoot himself after murdering the entire family, but the projectile missed. He claimed he ran away because he lacked the confidence to kill himself once again.
On Friday, NDTV revealed that on September 12, Verma had posted on WhatsApp stating his plan to kill the family and then himself. “I will show you soon, as five people are going to die,” read the status update.
The UP Police claimed in a statement that Verma was escorted to Amethi on Saturday by certain officials in order to retrieve the firearm and the motorcycle that were used in the crime when he took the official policeman’s weapon out of his holster and fired shots at him “with the intention of killing him.” As the policeman used “practical wisdom” to rescue himself, another officer opened fire in self-defense, striking Verma in the leg, according to the statement.
Poonam had stated in her initial information report that on August 18, she had visited a hospital in Rae Bareli, where Verma had harassed her sexually and, upon her protests, had slapped both her and her husband.
Authorities were alerted to the horrifying murder of four family members earlier on Thursday.
“I will kill you if you report this,” he declared. Even earlier, he had threatened to kill me. My family is in jeopardy. Chandan Verma will bear responsibility in the event that either my spouse or I experience any mishap or accident in the future. She had said, “I ask that you file my complaint and take the necessary action.”
