Hyderabad: After a video surfaced of Kompella Madhavi Latha, the BJP’s fierce contestant from Hyderabad, requesting Muslim women at a polling place to expose their faces so she could compare them to the pictures on their voter ID cards, the city’s police department opened an investigation.
The Representation of the People Act and the applicable parts of the Indian Penal Code have been cited in the registration of the complaint. In a post on X, the Hyderabad Collector’s office acknowledged that a case had been filed in Malakpet Police Station against the BJP candidate.
In the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha polls, which is currently taking place, Ms. Madhavi Latha is one of the most talked-about candidates. Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of AIMIM and a four-time MP from Hyderabad, is a formidable opponent.

Ronald Ross, the district election officer, previously told NDTV that police will file a formal complaint (FIR) against Ms. Madhavi Latha on the grounds that no candidate has the authority to remove someone’s veil in order to verify her identification. According to him, a campaign may request that the poll worker confirm a voter’s identity if they have any suspicions.
However, the BJP candidate stated to news agency ANI that it is a candidate’s right to verify voter identification documents. “I’m running for office. A candidate is legally allowed to inspect identification cards without donning a facemask. Since I’m a woman and not a male, I asked for them with great humility. She stated, “If someone wants to make a big deal out of it, it indicates that they are afraid.”
Although he posted the popular video on his Twitter timeline, Mr. Owaisi has not yet responded to the incident.
The BJP candidate claims that the voter list contains errors. “The police officers appear to be quite inactive and uninteresting. Nothing is being checked by them. Though their names have been removed off the list, senior citizen voters are coming here to cast their ballots,” she informed ANI.
The viral recordings are taking place against the backdrop of a divisive election in Hyderabad, a seat dominated by Muslims, and Asaduddin Owaisi’s family stronghold. Prior to the election, Ms. Madhavi Latha expressed her optimism for the support of Muslim voters, citing the BJP’s remarks regarding triple talaq and employment opportunities for young Muslims. Her outreach to minority voters is probably going to be hurt by the viral videos and the controversy around them.
Due to her actions, Madhavi Latha, the candidate running against AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, is probably going to be involved in a police case.
A police complaint pertaining to Madhavi Latha’s actions is expected to be brought against her in her campaign against AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi.
“I’m running for office. The candidate is legally permitted to examine the ID cards without donning a facemask. I have simply asked them to view and validate with the ID cards; I am a woman, not a male, and I am very humble. News agency ANI quoted her as adding, “If someone wants to make a big deal out of it, that means they are scared.”
She also said that there were inconsistencies in the voter’s list and that the cops were “very dull…not active.”
She asserted that there was no voter verification by the police. “Nothing is being checked by them. “Elderly citizens are casting their ballots here, but their names have been removed from the list,” stated Madhavi Latha.
The BJP candidate had earlier in the day urged voters to turn out in huge numbers because their choice would “move the whole nation forward.”
Bharatiya Janata Party candidate in Hyderabad, Kompella Madhavi Latha, was accused on Monday of asking Muslim women who wear burqas to reveal their faces at a polling place so that their identities could be confirmed.
Phase 4 of the Lok Sabha elections saw the alleged incident take place at booth number 122 in the Hyderabad seat of Azampur.
A purportedly captured video of the incident has gone viral, drawing criticism from
The police officers don’t appear very engaged; they seem pretty bored.Nothing is being checked by them. Even if senior citizens are casting ballots here, their names are removed from the list. Some of them live in Goshamahal, but their names are on the Rangareddy list,” the woman told ANI.
