Although several independent MLAs will back the ML Khattar government, independent MLA Nayan Pal Rawat asserted that the coalition is at a breaking point.
Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Manohar Lal Khattar tendered his resignation as chief minister of Haryana on Tuesday, citing divisions within the state’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) coalition. According to a spokesman for the Haryana government, ML Khattar gave the governor of Haryana his resignation letter and cabinet.
The JJP, led by deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala, and the BJP’s relationship deteriorated after they were unable to come to a consensus on seat sharing in the state for the Lok Sabha elections. In the 2019 elections, the BJP had taken all ten of the state’s Lok Sabha seats.

The BJP asserted that it has enough seats in the state assembly—41 MLAs plus independents—to surpass the halfway threshold of 45 seats.

Dharampal Gonder, another independent MLA, claimed that the other independent MLAs were backing the administration headed by the BJP.Gopal Kanda, an MLA for the Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP), had earlier asserted that the BJP and JJP’s alliance was nearing its breaking point and that the BJP could win the state’s ten Lok Sabha seats on its own.
The BJP has 41 MLAs in the 90-member Haryana assembly. Gopal Kanda, an HLP MLA, and five independent MLAs also support the party.Meetings of the MLAs of the BJP and JJP (Jannayak Janata Party) have been called separately by their respective high leaderships. Manohar Lal Khattar would host a meeting of all BJP ministers at his house prior to that.
- Leaders of the Central BJP, such as former Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Union minister Arjun Munda, are in the state to supervise the modifications. Senior party leaders have not commented, so it is unclear what the changes will entail.
