In June 2012, Mohol was charged with the murder of Qateel Siddiqui, a terror suspect and suspected member of the Indian Mujahideen. However, in June 2019, Mohol was found not guilty.
Another prominent suspect in the January 2010 murder of gangster Kishor Marne was identified as Sharad Mohol.
Gangster Sharad Hiraman Mohol was shot dead on Friday afternoon by a group of men, one of whom was an associate, over a financial dispute. He was previously charged with the murder of suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorist Qateel Siddiqui on the Yerawada jail premises.
Mohol (39), a native of Mutha village in Mulshi taluka of Pune district and a resident of Sutardara in Kothrud, was shot during the attack, according to the police. Police said that after being taken to Sahyadri hospital in Kothrud, he was declared dead. Nine teams from the crime branch were formed after the incident, and on Friday night they apprehended eight suspects who were driving two cars near Shirwal on the Pune-Satara highway.
Three handguns, three magazines, and five cartridges were found by the police in their possession.
The main suspect has been identified by the police as Sutardara resident Sahil, also known as Munna Polekar. “In theory, it is believed that Sharad Mohol’s attack was caused by a conflict between members of his own gang regarding money,” Commissioner of Police Retesh Kumaarr stated.
According to police sources, Mohol celebrated his wedding anniversary on Friday. When the attackers stopped him and fired at least three pistol shots at him from close range, they ran away from the scene. He had just left his Sutardara office with his wife and was getting ready to ride his four-wheeler to the Dagdusheth Halwai Ganesh temple.
According to the police, Polekar and his allies attacked him from nearly point blank range because no one questioned him because he was a Mohol associate. Huge crowds of Mohol’s relatives and supporters gathered in front of Sassoon General Hospital, the location of his post-mortem. A police presence was sent to maintain law and order on the hospital grounds. DCP
Police said Polekar was employed by Mohol. According to the investigation thus far, Polekar allegedly devised a plan to kill Mohol with the assistance of his aides because of a financial disagreement. He spent the last few days keeping an eye on Mohol. Sharad Mohol is currently free on bond despite being charged with roughly fifteen crimes.
Swati, the spouse of Sharad Mohol, became involved in party activities after joining the BJP. Mohol had established contact with various Hindutva groups in Pune and other regions. According to officials, he and his spouse were seen attending a number of social events in the city. On Friday night, Mohol’s funeral was held at the Vaikunth crematorium.
In jail, a terror suspect is accused of killing
Sharad Mohol became well-known when his name surfaced in connection with the June 2012 murder of Qateel Siddiqui, an alleged member of the Indian Mujahideen, on the grounds of the Yerwada jail.On November 22, 2011, Siddiqui was taken into custody by the Delhi Police following an investigation that uncovered his purported involvement in the explosions at the Jama Masjid in the capital, the German Bakery in Pune, the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, and the renowned Dagdusheth Halwai Ganesh Temple in Pune.
In May 2012, Siddiqui was taken into custody by the Maharashtra ATS and taken to Pune. According to the allegations, Siddiqui was killed by strangulation by Sharad Mohol and his assistant Alok Bhalerao using a string taken out of a pair of Bermuda shorts. Mohol ran and won the December 2012 election for deputy sarpanch of his home village while he was incarcerated.
A Pune court in June 2019 acquitted Mohol and Bhalerao in the murder case after seven years because there was insufficient evidence.
