On Wednesday night, the Congress unveiled its third list of forty candidates for the Haryana Assembly elections scheduled for October 5. Around two in the morning, the party announced the release of five more candidates. The deadline for submitting nominations is today. There are still four open seats.
With this, 86 candidates have been declared by the Congress to run for the 90-member legislature.
Even though it seemed from the list that the party high command was trying to find a middle ground between the factions of Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Kumari Selja, Selja is thought to be the front-runner in a few of the FOUR seats where the candidates have not yet been named.
Congress lists 45 candidates for Haryana’s polls, but four seats are still up for grabs.
The Congress has not yet announced candidates for FOUR seats: Narnaund, Sohna, Bhiwani, and Uklana, where Kumari Selja is eager to run if the party high command views her as a nominee in the assembly polls.
The candidate from the Ambala City constituency is Nirmal Singh. Bhupinder Singh Hooda had fiercely backed Singh’s candidacy in 2019, but Selja’s resistance seems to have been the reason for Singh’s defeat. Dejected former minister Nirmal Singh ran as an independent from Ambala City but was defeated by Aseem Goel of the BJP.

Singh, a four-time Congress Member of Legislative Assembly, later joined the AAP but eventually joined the Congress again before the January Lok Sabha elections. Chitra Sarwara, the daughter of Nirmal Singh, is also vying for a ticket from Ambala Cantonment, where she ran as an independent in 2019 and fiercely challenged BJP veteran Anil Vij.
The son of former Haryana chief minister Bhajan Lal and BJP leader Kuldeep Bishnoi, Chandermohan is a close associate of Kumari Selja and has been fielded by the Congress for the Panchkula seat. Gian Chand Gupta of the BJP defeated Chander Mohan in 2019. Once more, both are placed against one another.
