ToggleRED FORT
For more than two centuries, the Mughal Empire—which emerged in 1526 and had a distant ancestry from the Mongol Empire—ruled the Indian subcontinent. Many people believe that the Red Fort, also called Lal Qila, stands for the pinnacle of Mughal ingenuity and might.
Its red sandstone walls are the source of its name. The walls of the Red Fort, which stand 33 meters (108 feet) tall and were constructed beginning in 1638 and completed ten years later, create a lasting impression.
The architecture is an intriguing fusion of Timurid, Islamic, Persian, and Hindu elements. View the Red Fort to get a broad overview of Delhi’s past.
