ToggleWayanad Reacts on amethi seat
Rahul Gandhi won the 2019 polls from Wayanad but lost the Amethi seat in Uttar Pradesh. This time at Wayanad, he was pitted against CPI leader Annie Raja and state BJP president K. Surendran.
Thiruvananthapuram:
With Rahul Gandhi deciding to contest the Raebareli Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh as well, there were mixed reactions from people in Kerala’s Wayanad.
Elections were held in Wayanad Lok Sabha seat on April 26. While some people said there was nothing wrong for him to contest Raebareli too, there were some who said it was wrong on his part.
one person said there was nothing wrong with Mr Gandhi’s decision to contest from two seats. “He is leading the INDIA bloc and hence there is nothing wrong in it,” while another said, “if he wins from both the seats, it’s most likely that he will vacate the Wayanad seat.”
♦”The fact of the matter is we (IUML) requested the Congress party’s national leadership that Rahul should contest from one more seat other than Wayanad. Did not PM Modi contest from two seats in the past? We feel that this decision will be a boost for the INDIA bloc,” said Mr Kunhalikutty.

Wayanad pitted against CPI leader Annie Raja and state BJP president K. Surendran :
Kerala BJP president K Surendran, who has been pitted against Rahul Gandhi from Wayanad in the upcoming Lok Sabha election, said that the Congress leader will face the ‘same outcome’ as Amethi where he lost in 2019 against Union minister Smriti Irani.
Surendran and Gandhi, CPI’s Annie Raja is the candidate of the state’s ruling Left in the constituency.
“The central leadership has entrusted me with a responsibility. They have asked to take up the fight in Wayanad constituency. The people of Wayanad will definitely ask why the senior leaders of INDIA alliance are contesting each other in the same constituency,” Surendran told news agency PTI.
How Wayanad Voters Reacted To Rahul Gandhi’s Raebareli Move
Rahul Gandhi filed Raebareli nomination, criticized for not informing Wayanad voters of contesting from another seat. Seeking re-election from Wayanad, Congress named Kishori Lal Sharma from its stronghold.
After Congress leader Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination from Uttar Pradesh’s Raebareli, his opponent in Kerala’s Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency, Annie Raja, CPI candidate, said it is an “injustice to voters.”
“In a parliamentary democracy, an individual can contest from more than one seat so he is using that democratic right. Now his filing nomination from Raebareli is an injustice to the voters of Wayanad. It is unjust to the voters because he never mentioned even once that he intends to contest another seat simultaneously. It is about political morality,” the CPI leader told on Friday.
Rahul Gandhi is the sitting MP in Wayanad and is seeking a fresh term from the seat. The Congress leader filed his nomination from Uttar Pradesh’s Raebareli on Friday which is going to the polls in the fifth phase on May 20.
Congress announced Gandhi’s candidature from its stronghold Raebareli on the last date of nomination filing on May 3 along with naming Kishori Lal Sharma from Amethi.
