Kolkata Police reveals why a top cop’s identity was on the bike used by the rape suspect.
According to sources who spoke to NDTV on Friday morning, the Central Bureau of Investigation has ruled out gangrape in the killing of a doctor in Kolkata last month. The information that is currently available shows that only Sanjay Roy, who was detained by the police, was engaged in the horrifying rape and murder that occurred at the city’s RG Kar Hospital.

Sources claimed that the investigation is in its “final stages” and that charges will be filed shortly by the agency due to the Kolkata High Court’s decision to overrule Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in this matter.
A Chief Minister facing criticism from political rivals and civil society groups over the horrific crime is also putting pressure on the CBI. She requested an update last week. “The case was forwarded to the CBI, despite my request for five days for the police to investigate before she brought in the federal agency. They are not seeking justice. They desire a pause. “Where is justice, after 16 days,?” she questioned in Kolkata.
Since the case was moved twenty-three days ago, the CBI has not provided a progress report. We require a thorough report on the inquiry. Press conferences were used to provide regular updates during the investigation by the Kolkata Police, he said.
State Minister Bratya Basu, who works alongside Ms. Banerjee, has also requested a report.
According to LIVENDTV, the agency has forwarded a medical report, containing the accused’s DNA, to specialists at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi, which is run by the government. Once the government has the final word from the doctors about the material, it will look to conclude this investigation.
Additionally, according to sources, the CBI has no cause to suspect that anybody else was involved in the rape and murder of the doctor, whose body was discovered in a hospital room early on August 9. The CBI has recorded over 100 statements and administered 10 polygraph tests, including two of the former hospital chief Dr. Sandip Ghosh. The largest of the three arrests made by the CBI is that of Dr. Ghosh, who resigned from his position on “moral grounds” days after the assassination but was assigned to lead a different state-run hospital just hours later.
Nonetheless, Dr. Ghosh was detained due to suspected financial irregularities while serving as the head of the RG Kar Hospital, and he was interrogated by the CBI for two weeks. The petition of Deputy Superintendent Akhtar Ali, a former hospital employee, served as the basis for that case.
He had charged Dr. Ghosh with trafficking in biomedical waste, selling unclaimed bodies, and passing tenders without paying providers of medical supplies and equipment commission.
Along with the security guard, three more people were taken into custody.
Both the state doctors’ body and the Bengal government have suspended Dr. Ghosh after his arrest. The Indian Medical Association had previously placed him under suspension.
On September 17, the CBI is anticipated to submit a status report to the Calcutta High Court. Major national and international headlines have been generated by the RG Kar Hospital rape-murder case. Concerned medical professionals, advocates for female equality and civic society, and the opposition Bengali BJP and Congress have all voiced their outrage in protest.
Many unsubstantiated claims and suspicions have been made, including those that the doctor was gangraped and that there were conspiracies behind her murder. Her family has also made claims that the police attempted to buy them off in order to hide the murder, a claim that the police have categorically refuted.
This week, her parents added that despite their desire to preserve the remains, they were compelled to cremate it. “About 300 cops surrounded us… they created such a situation…” her father claimed. The opposition is alleged to be spreading rumors by the state, which has strongly retaliated against such assertions.
