Although Manchester United’s 0-0 draw with Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday won’t win any beauty pageants, the team’s tenacious and valiant display at Anfield suggests they are up for the challenge.
This season, it has appeared to be the opposite way around far too often.
Erik Ten Hag, United’s manager, stated, “You have to fight always for the badge.” We almost had a flawless defense of it. A teammate was always there to help us fix our mistakes. I believe that to be today’s major victory. This is something we must maintain and bring to every game.
On its previous visit in March, United had lost 7-0 at home against its fiercest rival and had folded.
Ten Hag is up against
Arsenal wins.
Arsenal appears to be a serious contender once more after dominating the Premier League for 248 days the previous season but failing to win the championship.
On Sunday, Mikel Arteta’s team defeated Brighton 2-0 and Liverpool drew to reclaim the top spot in the standings.
Arsenal had taken full advantage of the unexpected draw between Crystal Palace and reigning champion Manchester City on Saturday, and Arteta’s weekend only got better as Liverpool also lost.
At Emirates Stadium, goals from Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus in the second half gave Arsenal a five-point lead over fourth-place City.
Aston Villa responds.
After drawing even with second-place Liverpool and one behind Arsenal on the points total, third-place Aston Villa could prove to be a formidable opponent if it can maintain its stellar early-season form.
With Ben Mee’s red card in the 71st minute serving as a turning point, Unai Emery’s team overcame a 1-0 deficit at Brentford thanks to a goal from Keane Lewis-Potter in the first half.
Six minutes later, Ollie Watkins found the winner at GTech Community Stadium after Alex Moreno tied the score.
Even though Boubacar Kamara was sent off in the seventh minute of stoppage time, Villa managed to win five of its previous six league games.
After Watkins claimed to have been abused by a later, Villa requested an inquiry.
