When Paralympian Navdeep Singh won the coveted gold medal in the men’s javelin F41 final at the 2024 Paralympic Games, the entire nation was filled with pride. After winning a staggering 29 medals in the Paralympics, India’s delegation set a record for their highest-ever medal total. Speaking of Navdeep, the 23-year-old para-athlete, his extravagant celebration also brought him a lot of attention. Following his 47.32 distance in the final, Navdeep expressed his aggression with angry statements that went viral.

With humility, PM Modi consented and put his signature on his left arm.

Meeting with the Indian athletes competing in the Paris Paralympics seemed to be a great pleasure for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Thursday, September 12, at his New Delhi residence, Prime Minister Modi hosted the Paralympians and congratulated them on their historic performance in the Games. In a touching meeting with gold medallist Navdeep Singh in the javelin, the Prime Minister took a seat on the ground to make sure the para-athlete from Delhi could fit the present cap on his head.
Navdeep and PM Modi were quite open and honest throughout their conversation. The Prime Minister is seen laughingly questioning the javelin star about his profanity-filled yell during the Paralympic javelin F41 event final in a video that he posted on Instagram. Navdeep Singh set a new personal record of 47.32 meters to win the gold medal, giving India its seventh gold medal at the Games. The young Delhi boy, whose left hand had fired the spear into the Paris night sky, could not contain his emotions as he pushed himself forward.
When PM Modi sat on the floor to accept the para-athlete’s special present, he made jokes with Navdeep, asking him if he felt taller. Is it not too late to make amends? (Are you slightly taller than I am now?) “PM Modi enquired.

2016 saw the start of Navdeep’s career, spurred on by Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra. After witnessing the motivational performance of para-athlete Sandeep Chaudhary, Navdeep’s route changed from wrestling to para-javelin throw, following in the footsteps of his father, national-level wrestler Dalbir Singh. Navdeep began his great career in 2017 when he won a gold medal in the Asian Youth Para Games in Dubai, under the guidance of Chaudhary.
With a personal best throw of 47.32 meters at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris, Navdeep won first place, breaking the previous Paralympic mark held by China’s Pengxiang Sun from the Tokyo 2021 games. Even though Beit Sadegh of Iran threw 47.64 meters to win first place, Sadegh was penalized for unsportsmanlike behavior, and Navdeep’s silver medal was elevated to gold.
